ILA Secretary-Treasurer Stephen G. Knott Awarded “Hero of the Harbor” By Waterfront Alliance; NYSA’s John Nardi and Sharlene Brown of YMCA Also Honored In Jersey City, New Jersey

JERSEY CITY, NJ – (October 12, 2022) The Waterfront Alliance paid tribute to ILA longshore workers and shippers at reception in Jersey City, New Jersey on Wednesday, October 12th, honoring leaders of the two organizations that were instrumental in keeping cargo moving and commerce flowing throughout the almost three-years Covid pandemic.

Stephen Knott, Secretary-Treasurer, International Longshoremen’s Association, and John Nardi, President, Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey, received “Heroes of the Harbor” Awards at a reception attended by scores of ILA leaders from ports around the country.

“This Heroes of the Harbor Award must be shared by the tens of thousands of ILA members who demonstrated unmatched courage and extraordinary determination, fighting bravely through this horrible world-wide Covid pandemic,” Secretary-Treasurer Knott said in his remarks. “These exceptional ILA longshore workers, who kept our ports open and commerce moving across America since early 2020, have cemented their place in our nation’s history as “America’s Front-Line Heroes.”

Sharlene Brown, Executive Director, YMCA of New York/Castle Hill was also honored for her work bringing maritime and waterfront education to Bronx youngster
