ILA Longshore Workers and Dockers From Around The World Angered By Reports That Murderous Putin Is Bombing Ukraine’s Major Port City of Mariupol; Ukraine Vows To Hold Firm

NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (March 21, 2022) The New York Times this morning reports that “Russian forces broadened their bombardment of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol on Sunday,” a major port city in Ukraine. The worldwide family of dockers, who have continued to send messages of solidarity to their Sister and Brother Ukrainian Dockers.

“The women and men of the ILA offer our prayers and hopes to the Ukrainian Citizens that this murderous campaign by Russia’s Putin ends,” said ILA President Harold Daggett. “We are heartbroken to hear that Ukraine’s Port City of Mariupol is being bombed. This carnage must end, and Putin and his Russian thugs must be brought to justice.”

The ILA President knows the impact of any disruptions in world-wide shipping. “We are already facing an energy crisis with rising gas prices and shortages,” said President Daggett. “The next one will be a global food crisis.”

The ILA President said his union will continue to do what it can help Ukraine and join in supporting American and Canadian boycotts of Russia goods and shipments.
