ILA 56th Quadrennial Convention – DAY ONE Highlights

Just a few highlights from DAY ONE of the ILA 56th Quadrennial Convention:

  • President Harold Daggett discussed how we will not let automation, not even semi-automation, take our jobs. He said “The ILA and its members will never lose the battle against automation.”
  • The ILA was heavily applauded by President Daggett, and guest speakers, on their hard work and dedication throughout the pandemic with keeping America moving.
  • President Daggett discussed how he is working hard for us to get an even better contract than before.
  • Clayola Brown, the National President of the Philip Randolph Institute, said that the ILA is the best union for inclusion the she has ever seen. “I know what the ILA has done in the community of color over all these years.”
  • Clayola Brown was presented with a $25,000 donation check from the ILA for the Philip Randolph Institute.
  • Jonathan Daniels, the Chief Executive and Port Director of Port Everglades, Florida, mentioned that he is all about creating new job opportunities for the men and women of the ILA.
  • John Nardi, President of the Shipping Association of New York and New Jersey, discussed what changed since the last convention and what has not changed. Regarding automation, he said, “If the performance and productivity are there, there’s no need for automation!”
