Longshoreman Union Members from ILA Local 1416 Step Up this Holiday Season and Give Back to Low-Income Liberty City Families at Annual Toy Drive
On Saturday, December 17th, union members from the International Longshoreman Association (ILA) Local 1416 will be distributing toys to hundreds of children from Liberty City low-income families that otherwise may not be able to afford to purchase Christmas gifts for their children this year.
“Over the years our annual toy drive has given so many families the opportunity to be able to give their children some gifts on Christmas morning. It’s especially important this year with high inflation, food and gas prices out-of-control and soaring rents. Our members are so proud and humbled to be able to help our neighbors in need, in Liberty City and the surrounding areas where the ILA Local 1416 has been rooted for generations and has had a long history of assisting those less fortunate than us,” said Torin Ragin, President of ILA Local 1416.
The International Longshoreman Association represents 75,000 members nationwide. In 2021, the ILA Local 1416 celebrated its 85th Anniversary. Throughout the 85-year history, ILA Local 1416 has brought leadership and direction to its members and its community in successful voter registration drives, get-out-the-vote drives, and charitable work at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
