NORTH BERGEN, NJ – (October 27, 2022) The leader of the International Longshoremen’s Association will receive the maritime industry’s top award this Friday at a black-tie dinner in New York City. Harold J. Daggett, President of the 75,000-member ILA, will be presented the Admiral of the Ocean Sea Award by United Seamen’s Service at their 53rd Annual Dinner where over a thousand guests are expected to fill the ballroom at the Sheraton Times Square Hotel in Manhattan.
Joining ILA President Daggett as 2022 AOTOS honorees are Edward W. Aldridge, President of CMA-CGM North America and American President Lines and Eric P. Ebeling, President and CEO of American Roll-On Roll-off Carrier Group. All three will receive the traditional silver statuette of Christopher Columbus – the first Admiral of the Ocean. The AOTOS ceremony will also include honoring American seafarers for their acts of bravery at sea.
ILA members and officers from across the country are expected to attend the dinner honoring their president. Harold Daggett is the third ILA leader to receive the AOTOS Award, joining Teddy Gleason (1974) and John Bowers (1992).
Recognized as the most prestigious award in the maritime industry, the Admiral of the Ocean Sea Award has been presented annual by United Seamen’s Service for 53 years. The AOTOS Award is given in recognition of individuals and organizations who have shown outstanding support for American seafarers and the maritime industry of the United States.
The 2022 AOTOS Award completes a trifecta of top maritime honors for ILA President Daggett, who has been previously honored by the Foreign Commerce and the New York New Jersey Foreign Freight Forwarders and Brokers.
“I have been honored to lead the ILA as its president for more than 11 years now and have been part of our great union for better than 55 years,” said ILA President Daggett. “I share the honor of this AOTOS Award with the 75,000 active ILA members, retirees, Executive Officers and staff.”
